Professional profile

Dr Andrew Pool is a consultant rheumatologist covering all aspects of rheumatic disease including:

  • Inflammatory arthritis, connective tissue disorders such as lupus, gout, osteoporosis and fibromyalgia.
  • Soft tissue rheumatic disease including tendonitis, tenosynovitis, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, plantar fasciitis, back pain and carpal tunnel syndrome.

He also performs joint and soft tissue injections including hyaluronic acid (Synvisc and Durolane).

Dr Pool is accredited for medico-legal work in relation to rheumatic disease and fibromyalgia and has been an NHS consultant in rheumatology and general internal medicine for over 20 years. 

He was Lead Clinician in Rheumatology for eight years and continues to work in the NHS alongside his private practice. His NHS commitment is at East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust (Eastbourne District General Hospital, Conquest Hospital and Uckfield Community Hospital).

He studied medicine at Imperial College/Westminster Medical School. His research into rheumatology was at St George's Hospital Medical School where he looked at the effects of aerobic exercise on the hormonal systems of patients with autoimmune disease. He has published papers in this field.

His formal rheumatology training was at South Thames Regional Training Scheme which included rotations at St George’s Hospital and at Guy's and St Thomas’.
