Frequently asked questions
I cannot get an appointment with my GP and would like advice on seeing a specialist privately
If you are using health insurance, our private patient team will be able to advise you on your needs and the next steps to arranging your initial consultation. Please note: your policy may require you to have a referral to be covered by one of our specialists.
If you are paying for yourself, our private patient team will find you the best suited consultant for your needs and will advise you if a referral may be required for your treatment.
Where possible, our team will offer you guide prices so that you can make an informed decision on your treatment options.
I have a consultant in mind, how do I book in with them?
If you are using health insurance, you will need to contact your provider to confirm you are covered for your consultation with them and whether you require a referral.
If you do not have insurance, you can check Consultants page and request a booking directly.

Can you advise me on the most appropriate specialist to see for my symptoms?
If you are using health insurance, you may need to contact your insurance provider to discuss your options.
You may be advised that you require a GP referral to indicate which speciality will be most appropriate. Our private patient team will be able to help with referral advice if you need more information.
If you are not using insurance, our private patient team will talk to you about your symptoms and may be able to direct you in the direction of a particular speciality. The team work closely with our consultants and can also check with our consultants to ensure the expert chosen is most suited to your presenting symptoms.
Alternatively, you can visit your GP and ask them for advice, then call us to discuss which consultants are most suitable and their availability.
I can’t wait to see my NHS GP but I know the speciality or the name of the consultant I want to see.
If you are using insurance most cases will require a GP referral before you can see a specialist privately. We advise you to call your provider to check your policy requirements and find out your next steps.

My GP has referred me to a specialist but I want to be seen privately
If you are using insurance, call us on 01892 741242 to book an appointment with the same consultant or another with similar expertise.
You should contact your insurer to confirm whether you are covered for the consultation and any subsequent treatment.
If your GP has referred you to a specific consultant and you would like to change to a different consultant you may need to ask your GP to update the referral.
If you are paying for yourself, simply call us to book an appointment.
I have already seen a specialist on the NHS but I would like to continue my treatment privately
If you are using private medical insurance, call us to find out how we can help transfer your care from NHS to private.
You may need a new referral or you may simply be able to transfer under the same consultant if they have practicing privileges with us.
You should also confirm with your provider that you are covered for the treatment.
If you are paying for yourself, simply call us for a price for your treatment. If you have prices from other local providers please tell the team; we will be happy to price match.
My physiotherapist, osteopath or audiologist has suggested I see a specialist
If you are using insurance, you may need a referral letter from your healthcare professional or your GP to meet your policy requirements.
Once you have confirmation, call us and we will book you to see a consultant of your choice.
