Arthrosamid® is an innovative injectable treatment designed to reduce pain, improve movement, and help you return to the activities you enjoy, all without the need for surgery.

At Wells Health, our expert orthopaedic consultants offer Arthrosamid® as part of a personalised approach to managing knee osteoarthritis.

What is knee osteoarthritis?

Knee osteoarthritis is a common, long-term condition where the cartilage in the joint gradually wears away. This can lead to:

  • Pain and discomfort
  • Stiffness and swelling
  • Reduced mobility
  • Difficulty with everyday activities

Over time, inflammation in the joint lining (known as synovitis) can further increase pain and stiffness.

While there is no cure for osteoarthritis, effective treatments can help manage symptoms and improve quality of life.

What is Arthrosamid®?

Arthrosamid® is a permanent, non-biodegradable hydrogel that is injected directly into the knee joint.

It works by integrating with the synovial tissue (the lining of the joint), helping to:

  • Reduce pain
  • Improve joint function
  • Decrease stiffness

Unlike some other injections, Arthrosamid® becomes part of the joint lining, providing long-lasting effects from a single treatment.

Why choose Arthrosamid®?

Why choose Arthrosamid®?

Arthrosamid® offers a new option for patients who have not found sufficient relief from other non-surgical treatments.

Key benefits

  • Long-lasting pain relief — proven to reduce symptoms for several years
  • Non-surgical treatment — no hospital stay or general anaesthetic required
  • Single injection — one treatment rather than repeated injections
  • Improved mobility — helping you return to daily activities
  • Same-day procedure — you can go home shortly after treatment

It may also help delay or avoid the need for knee replacement surgery.

Who is it suitable for?

Arthrosamid® may be suitable if you:

  • Have mild to moderate knee osteoarthritis
  • Are experiencing persistent pain despite physiotherapy or medication
  • Are looking to avoid or delay surgery
  • Want a longer-lasting alternative to steroid or hyaluronic acid injections

Your consultant will assess whether this treatment is appropriate for you.

Who will carry out your treatment?

At Wells Health, you can choose from a team of experienced orthopaedic consultants specialising in knee conditions.

What will happen during my initial consultation?

Before treatment, you will have a consultation with your consultant to:

  • Review your symptoms and medical history
  • Assess your knee (including any scans if needed)
  • Discuss whether Arthrosamid® is right for you
  • Explain the benefits and risks.

What does the procedure entail?

Arthrosamid® is a simple outpatient procedure, typically taking around 30 minutes.

  • Your knee will be cleaned and numbed with local anaesthetic
  • The injection is delivered into the joint (sometimes using ultrasound guidance)
  • A small dressing is applied
  • You can usually go home the same day.

What can I expect in terms of recovery and results?

  • First few days: mild swelling or discomfort is common
  • 1–2 weeks: gradual return to normal activities
  • 6–12 weeks: improvement in pain and movement as the treatment integrates

Most patients experience significant improvement in pain and function over time.

What are the risks and side effects?

Arthrosamid® is considered safe, but as with any injection there are some risks.

Common (temporary)

  • Mild swelling
  • Stiffness
  • Warmth or discomfort

Rare

  • Infection
  • Allergic reaction
  • Persistent inflammation

Your consultant will discuss these fully with you before treatment.
