Professional profile

Mr David Rose is a fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon specialising solely in the treatment of patients with shoulder and elbow problems. His aim is to achieve the best possible outcomes for my patients, whether this involves surgical or non-surgical treatments.

When surgery is chosen he uses modern, evidence-based techniques that, where possible, use minimally-invasive keyhole approaches to restore return to function as rapidly as possible, while minimising the risk of complications.

Advances in surgical equipment, techniques and knowledge are occurring at an exponential rate. Since Mr Rose' practice is focused almost exclusively on the shoulder, and therefore on relatively few conditions and treatments, this has allowed him to keep up to date with the most innovative techniques, compared with the more 'generalist' orthopaedic surgeon.

Mr Rose was appointed as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust in 2014, and spends all of his clinical time assessing and treating patients with shoulder and elbow problems.

This has enabled him to develop experience in the latest cutting-edge keyhole techniques in shoulder and elbow surgery, enabling his patients to recover quicker and achieve the best possible outcomes.

He qualified from the Royal Free and University College London Medical School in 2000 and went on to complete Trauma and Orthopaedics specialist training on the London South West Thames training rotation. To complete his training, he undertook specialist orthopaedic fellowships at the Johns Hopkins Medical Centre, USA, the Perth Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Centre, Australia, and at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Trust, during which time he was fortunate to train under a number of world-renowned surgeons.

Mr Rose supervises the training of orthopaedic surgical registrars and has recently appointed a shoulder and elbow fellow at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust. He has recently taken over as Chair of the South East Thames Shoulder and Elbow Group, a group of leading shoulder surgeons in the region that meet to share ideas and discuss complex cases.

He has published extensively in peer-reviewed orthopaedic journals, presented his work at international conferences and continues to be actively involved in research.
