Mr Krissen Chettiar is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Darent Valley Hospital and Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup since 2013.

He specialises in lower limb surgery and trauma reconstruction. His main interests are hip and knee replacement and revision surgery. He also has an interest in young adult hip pathology, trauma and enhanced recovery surgery and rehabilitation.

Mr Chettiar performs numbers well over the national average for joint replacements and hip revision surgery, as stated on the National Joint Registry data. He also performs regular trauma surgery. Feedback obtained from patients post-operatively has been positive throughout.

He qualified from St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, Imperial College graduating in 2000. He also has a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience and a Master's in Medical Law and Ethics. He undertook postgraduate orthopaedic training in the south east. 

Mr Chettiar was heavily involved in the development of an enhanced accelerated recovery joint replacement programme with Hugh Apthorp in Hastings. He also completed three orthopaedic fellowships; two in joint reconstruction, a revision arthroplasty and young adult hip pathology at Frimley Park Hospital and in Calgary, Canada. He also obtained a trauma fellowship at the University of Calgary in Canada.

He is a member of numerous committees at Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust including the Thrombosis Committee, Trauma Networks, Enhanced Care Pathway and Audit leads committee.

Mr Chettiar is active in teaching, simulation training, research and audit, with articles published in numerous peer-reviewed journals. He has presented research nationally and internationally, and continues to do so. He has set up successful teaching programmes with good feedback and has been invited as an FRCS examiner at mock exams at various hospitals in the region.
