

Dr Laurence Maiden is dual accredited in general (internal) medicine and gastroenterology, and one of only two consultants in Tunbridge Wells accredited to perform colonoscopy on the National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme.
He offers a new pain-free investigation of the bowel using a pill-size camera to investigate internal problems. Capsule endoscopy is available to both insured and uninsured patients.
Dr Maiden trained at University College and Middlesex School of Medicine, London, gaining a BSc in anatomy and neurosciences before graduating in 1993. He completed his general medical training in Poole, Dorset and returned to London and South East Thames to complete his specialist training at the Kent and Sussex, Guy's and St Thomas', King's College and Lewisham hospitals. He was until recently Chief of Service for Medicine and Emergency Care at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust.
Dr Maiden has been a consultant at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust since 2008 where he heads a department of eight gastroenterologists, and is happy to receive referrals on all aspects of gastroenterology and hepatology, including small bowel pathology and nutrition.
Special clinical interests: reflux; nutrition; gastro-intestinal; capsule endoscopy; diseases of the small bowel; push and balloon enteroscopy and colonoscopy including complex polyp removal.

Dr Maiden's research into non-invasive investigation of small bowel pathology, including capsule endoscopy and faecal calprotectin, culminated in the award of Doctor of Medicine in 2008.
