Dr Mike Batley trained at Guy's Hospital in London, qualifying in 1991. He was a junior doctor at North Middlesex Hospital and was a registrar in the South Thames region working at St Thomas, King's College and Guy's hospitals.
He was part of the Early Rheumatoid Arthritis Network and his research looked at the effects of other conditions associated with Rheumatoid Arthritis. He has presented this data in Europe and the United States of America.
In 2003 he became a consultant in Rheumatology and General Medicine at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust, working initially at Maidstone Hospital.
He has set up lupus clinics, early synovitis clinics and biologic cohort clinics and published outcomes in international literature.
Dr Batley has been Royal College Tutor for Medicine, Clinical Director for Medicine and is currently Clinical Governance Lead for Medicine at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust, as well as Rheumatology Clinical Lead and Chair of the VTE committee for Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust.
