Professional profile

Mr Richard Freeman specialises in all aspects of foot and ankle surgery. His interest is in minimally invasive and arthroscopic surgery and he uses a range of modern surgical techniques to achieve excellent results where traditional treatments have failed.

These techniques also allow for full weight bearing post-operatively in the vast majority of cases, allowing early rehabilitation and return to sport or work.

Mr Freeman has wide experience managing sports injuries and complex trauma including deformity correction and the management of bone infection. In his NHS practice he regularly receives referrals of complex patients from across the south coast.

Mr Freeman completed medical school in London before training around the south east region in the generality of orthopaedics. He then undertook a foot and ankle fellowship in London where he developed arthroscopic and minimally-invasive surgery skills. The fellowship involved treating a large number of elite athletes including premiership football and rugby players, and Olympic athletes.

He then completed a fellowship in trauma at the major trauma centre, where he gained experience in managing complex trauma, in particular lower limb and foot and ankle injuries.
