Miss Ying Yiing Lou graduated from the University of Southampton School of Medicine in 2006 and completed her Obstetrics and Gynaecology training in South London/ KSS Deanery in 2017. She had undertaken a clinical fellowship in minimal access surgery at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

She was appointed as a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust in 2017 and she has been the clinical lead in the Rapid Access Service since 2021.

Miss Lou was trained in benign abdominal surgery (open and laparoscopy) and hysteroscopy which complement her range of skills to manage common gynaecological cases. She has a special interest in minimal access surgery and ambulatory gynaecology.

Having completed the BSGE/Olympus advanced laparoscopy training programme and GESEA MIGS certification, she has developed her advanced laparoscopy skills further.

She is also skilled at performing outpatient hysteroscopy for diagnostic and operative purposes to manage pre- and postmenopausal women with bleeding disorders.

She has enhanced her gynaecology scanning skills further for suspected malignancies during her consultant years and is accredited with IOTA (International Ovarian Tumour Analysis) certification.

Miss Lou specialises in the diagnosis and management of gynaecological cancer. She runs a one-stop Rapid Access Clinic at Maidstone Hospital with scanning, consultation and outpatient procedures for patients with symptoms or results that raise concern for cancer in order to minimise the waiting time and improve patient outcomes.

Miss Lou always promotes high professional standards of clinical care for patients, both through direct patient care and by maintaining continuing professional development. Her personal quality of caring with non-judgemental attitude to patients, staff and colleagues enables her to provide patient-centred care.

Her ambition is to improve the patient pathway to improve outcomes and experience for women referred with suspected gynaecological malignancy. She is keen to offer a full range of diagnostic and supportive services and to achieve close integration of primary and secondary care and the identification of appropriate rapid referral patterns for patients with symptoms indicating a high risk of a malignancy.
