Wells Health, in partnership with MTW Hospitals Charity, brought colleagues together in support of Paddock Wood Half Marathon on Sunday 8 March.
Together, they raised nearly £2,000 for MTW Hospitals Charity which will help purchase specialist equipment for the Stroke Unit at Maidstone Hospital and the Intensive Care Unit at Tunbridge Wells Hospital, enhancing patient care and contributing to service improvements across our hospitals.
The running teams tackled the 13.1 mile course with dedication and teamwork. Catherine Mandri, Clinical Lead for Stroke, Sarah Shipton, Clinical Specialist Neuro Occupational Therapist, and Eleanor Doherty, Clinical Lead Physiotherapist from the Stroke team raised nearly £800 to help redesign staff and patient spaces in the Stroke Unit at Maidstone Hospital, supporting recovery after stroke.
Joining them on the course was Lizzie Allen, Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist in Critical Care, who achieved a personal best time while raising £825, and Brendan O'Reilly, Deputy Superintendent Sonographer, raised a further £120.
Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon Mr Nicholas Bowman and Consultant Gynaecologist Mr Alex Slack also took part, offering fantastic support to the team throughout the event.
Speaking after the race, Catherine said: “We had great running weather and there were lots of friendly supportive groups along the route. The Stroke team all ran personal bests and we are very proud of what we achieved. We also surpassed our initial fundraising target which made everything even better!”
Staff volunteers spent the morning speaking to runners and spectators, and helping to raise additional donations for the charity. The event was a valuable opportunity to engage with the community and highlight the partnership between Wells Health and MTW Hospitals Charity.
Claire Ashby, Head of Charity and Fundraising, said: “It was a pleasure to partner with Wells Health at this year’s Paddock Wood Half Marathon. The team’s energy on the course and in the event village was truly inspiring. We’re truly grateful for their support; every pound raised will make a meaningful difference for patients and staff across our hospitals.”
Jo Gibson, Commercial Director at Wells Health, added: “I’m incredibly proud of everyone involved: our runners, our volunteers and the teams who worked behind the scenes to make the day such a success. Partnering with MTW Hospitals Charity is an important part of our commitment to reinvesting in MTW, and yesterday showed just how powerful that partnership can be.”
