Wells Health has marked a milestone by successfully completing its first robotic-assisted surgery for a private patient, led by expert consultant urologist, Mr Mark Cynk

With 22 years' experience in laparoscopy and six years in robotic surgeries, Mr Cynk is widely respected for his expertise, having trained surgeons and theatre teams across the UK. He has performed over 600 laparoscopic and 200 robotic procedures during his career in NHS trusts.

Mr Cynk said: “Robotic-assisted surgery is transforming patient outcomes. It allows us to deliver treatments with greater precision, shorter recovery times, and less discomfort compared to traditional methods. This is an important innovation for Wells Health and will enhance the care we’re able to provide for patients.”

The robotic advantage

The robotic system enhances surgical precision to allow for minimally invasive procedures by translating the surgeon’s hand movements into precise actions through robotic arms. This allows complex procedures to be performed with smaller incisions, reducing trauma to surrounding tissues.

Benefits for patients

Patients choosing robotic-assisted surgeries can expect:

  • Minimally invasive procedures; smaller incisions mean less pain, blood loss and scarring.
  • Shorter recovery times; back on your feet more quickly with personalised care to support your recovery.
  • Improved surgical outcomes; fewer complications and  better long-term results.

This private robot-assisted surgery is the first robotic surgery to be performed by Wells Health and in 2025 the service will grow to cover different specialties including gynaecology.

For straightforward or more complex health conditions, choose Wells Health and benefit from our comprehensive clinical services and private facilities surrounded by specialist facilities, teams and support provided in one of the country’s top performing hospital trusts.
